The Severfield Foundation – donations to our local charities

In 2016, The Severfield Foundation commenced a 24-month partnership with Prostate Cancer UK and raised in excess of £100,000.

Along with supporting our national charity partner during this period, Severfield also had several nominated local charities for each of our company subsidiaries; Bolton Hospice, St Catherine’s, Thirsk Community Care, The Yorkshire Air Ambulance, RNLI, Action Mental Health and Start 360.

Each Severfield subsidiary has organised and taken part in numerous events to support Prostate Cancer UK and their nominated charity/charities during this partnership.

Severfield (NI)

The Severfield Foundation presented an astounding £15,000 to each of the three Severfield (NI) nominated charities.

The main fundraising events held by the company were their ‘Fisher Cycle Challenge’ events, which have been hugely successful for 5 years now. The latest cycle challenge took part in June 2018 and attracted over 250 cyclists – raising over £22,000. Other events Severfield (NI) held during this period were a duck derby, several raffles and Christmas events such as a Christmas Jumper Day.

The funds, matched by The Severfield Foundation, were recently distributed to RNLI, Action Mental Health and Start 360 at the Severfield (NI) office in Ballinamallard.

On receiving their donation from The Severfield Foundation, Peter Scott from RNLI stated: “I’m quite simply speechless at the amount donated which will go towards a new lifeboat station in the area. We were not expecting anything of this magnitude. This is a tremendous achievement by Severfield and shows the generosity of those working at the site in Ballinamallard. RNLI has thoroughly enjoyed working with Severfield at their fundraising events and, on behalf of the organisation, thank you so much for this incredible donation”.

Start360 CEO, Anne-Marie McClure: “This is an amazing investment in the work of Start360 by the staff team at Severfield and we are so grateful to everyone who has made this donation possible. The money raised will help us sustain and grow our services as we move into 2019.”

Caroline Ferguson representing Action Mental Health commented “We are delighted to have been chosen as one of the recipient charities for the 2018 Fisher Cycle challenge, and we commend Severfield (NI) for the strong focus which the organisation has on mental health and emotional well- being. This very generous donation will be used to deliver much needed, high quality services supporting people who are in recovery from mental health issues across our community.”

Severfield (UK) – Lostock

For Severfield (UK)’s Lostock facility in Lancashire, their nominated local charity was Bolton Hospice.

Following various fundraising events, raffles and social activities held by employees, The Severfield Foundation matched funds to proudly present Kathryn Willett (below left) and Kathryn Sheldon (centre) from Bolton Hospice with a cheque for £6,000 earlier this year. Presenting the cheque was Severfield’s General Manager, Andrew Smedley.

On receiving the cheque, Kathryn Willett said “On behalf of everyone at Bolton Hospice, I would like to say thank you so much for your wonderful donation of £6,000! This will make an incredible difference here at the hospice and to give you an idea, £6,000 could pay for vital oxygen for all our patients for a year! Without amazing people like you, we wouldn’t be here to care for those most in need, your support means the world to us!”

Severfield (UK) – Dalton

At Severfield (UK) in Dalton, North Yorkshire, the local selected charities were The Yorkshire Air Ambulance (YAA) and Thirsk Community Care.

Throughout the partnership period, the site held fundraising activities such as a ‘Luxury Easter Egg’ and Christmas raffles – both of which were successful in raising money and hugely enjoyed.

The two local charities were each presented with a cheque for £6,000 following matched funding from The Severfield Foundation.

The Severfield FoundationThirsk Community Care, Tina Chamberlain commented “We are very grateful for this donation and would like to take the opportunity, on behalf of the Trustees and staff, for the support you have given Thirsk Community Care.”

On receiving their cheque, YAA’s Helen Callear, Director of Fundraising North and East, commented “We would like to thank Severfield for their generosity and ongoing support over the last seven years. Their regular donations help greatly towards the vital funding of the Yorkshire Air Ambulance, especially in the rural area of North Yorkshire where they are based. We are incredibly grateful.”

Severfield (Design & Build)

Severfield (Design & Build)’s nominated local charity was Saint Catherine’s, a charity in Scarborough, North Yorkshire that provides care and support for adults with terminal illness, and their families, carers and friends.

During the period, the Company hosted raffles and their main event – ‘Made of Steel’ mountain bike challenge at Dalby Forest. In its second year, this was hugely successful and popular – helping to raise much needed funds for both Saint Catherine’s and Prostate Cancer UK.

Severfield (Design & Build) colleagues presented Nicky Grunwell (from Saint Catherine’s) with a cheque for £6,000 from The Severfield Foundation in February this year.

“On behalf of all the patients, staff and volunteers at Saint Catherine’s I would like to say a massive “Thank you” for your very generous donation of £6,000.

Your donation will help us to deliver the 16 different care services free of charge to the local community. Last year our community helped us to care for over 3,000 patients and their families across the 1,600 square miles we cover. We couldn’t do it without you! Thank you” – Nicky Grunwell, Saint Catherine’s.
