Manchester Victoria Station

Manchester Victoria 1

When Manchester Victoria Station’s redevelopment was opened, it brought a much brighter, more modern and spacious transport hub to the City.

The station is both a mainline railway station and a Metrolink tram stop, located near Manchester Cathedral and is attached to The Manchester Arena.

Our team’s involvement covered many important aspects on this project, from creating the award-winning Tekla BIM design, to providing and installing the iconic steelwork structure.

Working closely with the main contractor at weekly meetings, we used site-based plans to regularly highlight areas available for other site activities to continue, including access and crane locations. These carefully thought-out plans meant it was clear to everyone how the works for other trades could be completed within relevant time frames, prior to the key steel erection periods.

The 1,800 tonnes of our fabricated steelwork was constructed by our teams during 3.5 hour, specially timed shifts (1:30am-4:00am). The steel assembly could only take place at set times during the isolation of both Network Rail lines and the transport for Greater Manchester Metrolink.

We’re very proud to have been part of this project, which went on to receive the 2015 Tekla awards for the ‘Total BIM Project’ and the ‘People’s Choice’.
