Being the second largest city in the UK, boasting a population of 1.1 million, more than 10,000 of which are finance professionals, it is no surprise that investment is being poured into Birmingham to ensure it has the amenities and infrastructure to meet the needs of a growing business community.
Three Snowhill is part of the city’s major regeneration plans, located right in the centre of all the action, in the heart of the business district. This impressive 19-storey office block neighbours One and Two Snowhill and is the final element of the Snowhill Estate.

For the structure, we fabricated and constructed 4,500 tonnes of steelwork, of which, 470 tonnes are Fabsec cellular beams. In excess of 2,500 cast-in plates were individually surveyed and site-welded by our construction team. The site location posed some challenges. Being bound by main arterial roads to two sides, a live tramline and Two Snowhill, meant that well-managed logistics and steel delivery times were crucial to ensure we met the programme of delivery for the project.
Three Snowhill offers occupants a modern, flexible and open office environment. The space features variations in floorplate layouts and depths, which were achieved by a complex arrangement of cantilevered and suspended steel frames, supported from sloping and vertical columns – a challenging construction form. The building is crowned with an elegant, curved steel and glass atrium roof structure.
Our on-site construction team delivered and maintained an excellent health and safety performance during the build – so much so that they were given the supply chain SHE performance award for two consecutive months.

Sustainability ratings and success
This project is on track for a BREEAM Excellent rating and an EPC rating of at least ‘B’: no small challenge when a building has a fully glazed façade. One of the ways this is being tackled is through paying specific attention to energy use and saving on site.
