Severfield’s Design Engineer raises over £24,000 For charities

Severfield Design Engineer Gary Sherrard and his friend Scott have both recently completed a gruelling walking challenge in order to raise much-needed funds for four charities.

Last month one of our Design Engineers, Gary Sherrard - along with his friend Scott - raised vital funds and awareness for Motor Neurone Disease Association, Parkinson’s UK and Marie Curie UK and the IRFU Charitable Trust . Over 7 days they both walked a total of 205 miles in the rain, sun, wind and traffic for these great charities.

They raised an amazing £24,921.88 and their target was £4000. The Severfield Foundation were happy to support Gary and donated £500 to help reach their target.

Each evening they finished at a rugby club, having walked at least 26 miles:

  • Sunday – Omagh RFC to City of Derry RFC – 33 miles
  • Monday – City of Derry RFC to Coleraine RFC via Limavady RFC – 27 miles
  • Tuesday – Coleraine RFC to Ballymena RFC via Ballymoney RFC – 27 miles
  • Wednesday – Ballymena RFC to Instonians/Cooke RFC via Ballyclare RFC & Ophir RFC – 34 miles
  • Thursday – Instonians/Cooke RFC to Banbridge RFC via QUBRFC & Lisburn RFC – 26 miles
  • Friday – Banbridge RFC to Dungannon RFC via Portadown RFC – 28 miles
  • Saturday – Dungannon RFC to Omagh RFC – 30 miles
“Without a doubt the toughest day was Tuesday as the heat and enormity of our task started to drain us but with the help of some support walkers from Wednesday onwards we made it home. On Saturday 10th July just after 6pm we took the final steps of our challenge as we walked into Omagh RFC to an emotional but brilliant reception.” - Gary Sherrard
