Synonymous with style and academic prowess, University of the Arts London (UAL) is no less famous for its links to fashion-forward thinking than it is to educational growth. As such, Severfield’s involvement in the London College of Fashion campus building underscores not only our commitment to the Arts, but also to education, architectural ingenuity, and creativity.

Situated within the former 2012 Olympic Park in Stratford, East London, the project is central to one of the key Olympic legacy commitments from the 2012 bid; to transform and develop the surrounding area into a thriving district. Having played an integral part in the construction of the Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park, Severfield is proud to continue our work and help deliver on the hugely important socioeconomic legacy commitments.

The London College of Fashion (LCF) marries academia and style seamlessly and Severfield rose to the occasion to fabricate, deliver and install 854 tonnes of steel to create beautiful open spaces to accommodate over 6,500 staff and students in a building worthy of such an institute.

The South Transfer Structure, located at the entrance of the building, is testament to the complex engineering required to construct LCF. Lattice stanchions founded at level 1 supported an array of fabricated beams at level 3 which were temporarily supported and welded on-site before being encased in concrete to create a clear 3-storey space to underscore a sense of space, creativity and openness.

Additional areas of steelwork included a North Transfer Structure, lecture theaters and the distinctive sawtooth roof. This venue truly promises to deliver both aesthetically and scholastically.
