Severfield’s contribution to the Nuclear Sector: The Sellafield SRP Project
At Severfield, we are not just building structures; we're also shaping the future of the nuclear sector.
ProjectsOne of our latest projects, the Sellafield Product and Residue Store Retreatment Plant (SRP) project, stands as a testament to our commitment to innovation and excellence in engineering and construction in the nuclear sector. Severfield's project scope includes the connection design, fabrication, and erection of a Nuclear Seismic structure dedicated to the long-term storage and processing of fuel rod containment capsules, involving 2,600 tonnes of structural steelwork.
The journey of our steelwork begins at our largest manufacturing site in Dalton, near Thirsk in North Yorkshire. Here, we begin the process with over a hundred hours of meticulous CAD design, and following the design process, our highly skilled team fabricate the steel components that will play a vital role in the Sellafield SRP project.
Upon completion, the Sellafield SRP facility will serve as a crucial hub for the repackaging and, where necessary, the re-treatment of special nuclear materials. This function underscores the importance of our work at Severfield in ensuring the safe and sustainable management of nuclear resources.
