Severfield’s contribution to the Nuclear Sector: The Sellafield SRP Project

At Severfield, we are not just building structures; we're also shaping the future of the nuclear sector.

One of our latest projects, the Sellafield Product and Residue Store Retreatment Plant (SRP) project, stands as a testament to our commitment to innovation and excellence in engineering and construction in the nuclear sector. Severfield's project scope includes the connection design, fabrication, and erection of a Nuclear Seismic structure dedicated to the long-term storage and processing of fuel rod containment capsules, involving 2,600 tonnes of structural steelwork.

From Dalton, North Yorkshire, to Sellafield, Cumbria: The journey of steelwork

The journey of our steelwork begins at our largest manufacturing site in Dalton, near Thirsk in North Yorkshire. Here, we begin the process with over a hundred hours of meticulous CAD design, and following the design process, our highly skilled team fabricate the steel components that will play a vital role in the Sellafield SRP project.

A vision for the future

Upon completion, the Sellafield SRP facility will serve as a crucial hub for the repackaging and, where necessary, the re-treatment of special nuclear materials. This function underscores the importance of our work at Severfield in ensuring the safe and sustainable management of nuclear resources.
