Overview:
CIT's South Bank Tower Project involved the construction of additional floors above the existing concrete tower and podium structures, creating 191 high-end luxury apartments, 370,000ft² of office space and 72,000ft² of retail space. These extensions were constructed utilising steel frames supported from the existing concrete frames.
A 12 storey vertical extension to the existing 30 storey tower was constructed by Severfield and is comprised of a steel frame with metal decking which was 'cantilevered' from the new concrete core utilising a 100mm diameter Macalloy sloping tension bars tied back to the central core.
Some key technical details are:
Off-site application of 60 and 90 minute intumescent fire protection to main frame steelwork.
Podium extension consisted of new steel framing and metal decking to floor levels 7-10, which were erected off the light weight existing RC waffle slab.
Fabsec floor beam design.
